FOIA/Privacy Act

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. § 552, is a Federal law that gives the public the right to make a request for Federal Government records. Requests from individuals for records about themselves contained in an DoD Privacy Act system of records will be processed under the provisions of the Privacy Act, as well as the FOIA. The Privacy Act, 5 U.S.C. § 552a, establishes a code of fair information practices that governs how the Federal Government may collect, maintain, use, and disclose information about individuals. Under the Privacy Act, individuals have the right to request access to records about themselves and to request amendment of their personal information if it is inaccurate, irrelevant, out-of-date, or incomplete.   • Office of Government Ethics - Pursuant to the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (or STOCK) Act, copies of the public financial disclosure reports (OGE Form 278) for DoD Title I and II Officials are available from the Office of Government Ethics. This includes the Secretary of Defense, the Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics, and the Service Secretarie
     
  • OGE Form 201 - Copies of the public financial disclosure reports (OGE Form 278) and certain other ethics program records for DoD personnel who receive guidance from the Standards of Conduct Office may be obtained by completing the fillable OGE Form 201, "Request to Inspect or Receive Copies of OGE Form 278/SF 278 Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Reports or Other Covered Records".
     
  • DoD FOIA Website - For documents not covered by the STOCK Act and the OGE Form 201 release process, a requestor must submit a Freedom of Information Act (or FOIA) request through the Office of the Secretary of Defense Requester Service Center.
